Our Church Family

Pastoral Staff

Rev. Walter J. Takuski, Pastor Rev. Walter J. Takuski, Pastor
I am blessed to be a priest of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

My immediate family immigrated to the United States of America in 1985, and I never thought that this event would bring me to another continent. Back then, while I was completing my Elementary, High School and College education, together with my family I was very much involved in parish life. Through all that time I felt God's call which eventually led me to Major Seminary of the Archdiocese of Cracow, St. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake by Detroit, and the University of Our Lady of the Lake/Mundelein Seminary. The response to God's call took 10 years and it was worth it. Sometimes I laugh that I was trained like a Jesuit.

The Catholic Church confirmed God's call when His Eminence, Joseph Cardinal Bernardin ordained me in the Holy Name Cathedral on May, 20, 1995.

My priestly work began at St. Laudislaus Parish in Chicago and then continued at St. Ferdinand Parish, also in Chicago. In 2002, I was asked to join the faculty of Mundelein Seminary, where I served as spiritual director, student advisor, and a leader of priest camp. At that time I also had a radio show and completed studies on spirituality at Creighton University.

Beginning in 2005, I was a part time associate for both St. John the Evangelist Parish in Streamwood and St. Thomas Becket Parish in Mount Prospect, and then for St. Peter Damian Parish in Bartlett.

On July 1, 2009, I became the pastor of St. Peter Damian Catholic Church. I wholeheartedly like it. I love it. I feel blessed by your presence, dedication, generosity, and deep Catholic spirituality.

My hobbies vary. I like reading, sports, and being outdoors. I listen to music and audiobooks. Recently I have discovered a new talent with interior designing. I love fine arts. My favorite famous artist is Vincent van Gogh. Let me also add that I have interest in cosmology, photography, filming, and broadcasting.

Through many years of education I hold the following degrees: Bachelor of Arts, Master of Divinity, and Doctor of Ministry.

Terry and I entered the diaconate training in the fall of 1983 and I was ordained a deacon for St. Peter Damian in April of 1986. Together with my wife, we facilitated the RCIA program for many years.

In 2001, I left Motorola and attended Loyola University for two years, graduating with a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Studies. After an additional year of residency in the Alexian Brothers chaplaincy program, I took a full time position as staff chaplain at the Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village and have worked there since 2004.

Now that our children are grown and married, Terry and I are enjoying our six (soon to be seven) grandchildren and I'm still indulging my passion for old fountain pens.
